Assessment of the Influence of Small Businesses on Water Pollution in Mawa Ghat.
This study examines the influence of small businesses in Mawa Ghat in contributing to water pollution. Walk through Mawa Ghat on any regular day, and you’ll notice small stalls, tea shops, boat repairs, and vendors working close to the river. It seems harmless, but quietly, the water is suffering.
Most of these businesses don’t have any waste disposal system. Used oil from boat engines gets rinsed straight into the river. Plastic wrappers, leftover food, and chemical waste are frequently discarded nearby and finally flowing into the water.
Locals say fish are disappearing. Some even mention skin rashes after using river water. Yet, many shopkeepers have no idea they’re contributing to it.
This report looks at those everyday habits—small on their own, but jointly harmful. Fixing the problem is not about blame it’s about helping the people see the impact and provide guiding them toward effective strategies.
Background of the Study
If you spend time near Mawa Ghat, you’ll notice how busy the place gets. Small shops open early, boats are repaired along the river, and people go about their day like they always have. It’s a lifeline for many. Basically water pollution occurs those small businesses is a significant environmental issue in Mawa Ghat. But over the years, the river has started to change. Locals talk about how the water smells different now. Sometimes, there’s a layer of oil floating on top. Bits of trash wash up near the banks. These signs weren’t there before.
Most of this comes from small businesses. It’s not that they want to pollute the water—they just don’t have proper systems to get rid of waste. Oil, soap, food scraps, even cleaning chemicals… they all find their way into the river.

People need to be aware of what’s going. It’s not too late to fix it—but only if someone starts thoughtful.

Problem Statement
Generally, when people talk about water pollution they focus on big factories and large industries. That makes sense, but in places like Mawa Ghat, it’s often the small businesses that quietly add to the problem—and not much has been studied about that.
Mawa Ghat is close to the river and full of activity small shops, boat repair spots, food vendors—all of which interact with the environment daily. But we have still not any idea to understand how much they’re affecting the water. Wastewater, oil spills, thrown-out chemicals these might seem minor on their own, but together they can do real harm to both nature and the people living nearby.
This research hopes to take a closer look at that gap to see how small business practices are linked to the pollution we’re seeing in the area’s water.

- To develop suggestion for sustainable practices that small businesses can acquire to minimize their environmental impact on water quality.
Conclusion
The extensive analysis of water quality parameters disclose valuable insights into the environmental conditions of the region. Things like pH, temperature, and salt levels they are all normal, which is good. So, it seems like the river is still doing fine.
But, honestly, that doesn’t mean we can just relax. Sometimes these problems sneak up slowly. Waste from small shops like oil and leftovers can quietly pollute the water.
A lot of those businesses probably don’t have the right ways to handle their waste. Not because they do not care, but maybe they don’t know or can’t. So, it’s major to help them and make sure they stick to some simple rules.
If we wait too long fixing things will be much harder. Better to handle with it now, while the water’s still okay.
