1. Overview of California Institute of Technology

California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is a private research university located in Pasadena, California, United States. Caltech is internationally well known for giving special emphasis on science, engineering, math, technology and basic research. Although the number of students at the university is relatively low, its effect on the research is very important.

Caltech’s students and teachers are researching and working on various complex problems of modern science and technology. The history of Caltech began in 1891, when Amos G. Throop established Throop University in Pasadena. With time, the company became a specialized center of science and engineering education.

In 1920, the company officially adopted the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Currently Caltech is an independent and private funding research institute. The university has a wide range of campuses of about 124 acres in Pasadena. Caltech’s academic community has about 971 undergraduate students and 1,398 graduate students.

Their teaching and research includes over 300 professorial faculty members. Caltech’s student-teacher ratio 3:1. Due to this low ratio, students get the opportunity to work closely with professors and researchers and engage directly in research activities.
