Overview of University of Hong Kong

University of Hong Kong (HKU) was founded in 1911. It is the oldest higher education institution in Hong Kong and a government research-based university. Here is mainly studied in English and special emphasis on international education. HKU has 10 faculty and 4 school.

The university has undergraduate program on various subjects including Architecture, Arts, Business, Dentistry, Education, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Science and Social Sciences. Over 42,000 students at HKU during the 2024–25 academic year. These include over 19,000 undergraduate and 23,000 Postgraduate students. The university also has over 120 Taught Postgraduate Programs.

There are also opportunities for research at Master’s and Doctoral levels. HKU focuses on advanced research, new innovation, international cooperation and integrated education of various topics. The university plays an important role in strengthening education and research communication of different countries around the world with Asia.
